So which one do you guys think is more developed? Not just the clothes, but their personalities, too.
Just as a warning: This post contains slight spoilers about Kingdom hearts II, but I assume that most people here have already tried it to the point where you get to play as Sora. If you have, well, then there's no reason not to read this.
Hm. Difficult decision, because I like them both. Well, my vote goes to Roxas. His personality is a bit more developed than Sora's. Sure, Sora's design is cool and flashy, no doubt, but I assume that by "character design" it refers to not only the clothes. The fact that Sora has got a new, flashy, nice costume doesn't make up for his extremely annoying personality. In the first game I could tolerate that Sora was the nice little guy who never saw any wrong in anyone. That is acceptable because he simply looks like an innocent little kid running around halfway dressed up as Mickey Mouse(his red shorts and shrieking yellow, too-big shoes).
However, it doesn't fit him in Kingdom Hearts II. Seriously, now he looks a lot more mature, has even begun to take on a deeper voice and has a new set of clothes which is absolutely awesome. And what happens? He's still the nice little kid. Even though he may show anger and sadness sometimes, that is very difficult to notice, because he acts all sweet and kind in the next moment. I find that extremely annoying. If he had at least gotten a LITTLE more mature in the ways of behaving, he had been a clear winner. But, some guy in Disney simply had to come up with "I know, let's not change Sora! Everyone liked him in the last game, and besides the kids likes smiling heroes!"
Yes, it could have been a fitting idea, but Sora's childish personality compared with his new, completely changed body simply doesn't match. Maybe I'm really wrong and Sora's awesome the way he is, but I pray that Squaresoft make Sora's personality fit with his new looks if they ever decide to come up with a Kingdom Hearts III.
Sadly, we don't get to play with Roxas very much, but he feels more like a real person to me. My favourite scene was just before Roxas rejoined with Sora - did you ever hear Sora make a scream of anger and frustration like Roxas did? I could almost feel the anger in his voice, desperation of not being told anything. And I could easily recognize myself in Roxas when he had lost the munny he, Pence, Hayner and Olette worked so hard to earn when sitting at the clock tower.
Sora never ever gave me the same feeling. It's like, Sora shows emotions with his eyes(really, all he does is glaring at people with an angry look), while Roxas shows emotions with his whole body(screams, attacks, etc). Roxas also look like a typical teenager his age, he could easily have been in my class. He's more laid-back than Sora, at the same time he is not your typical "save the world"-hero like Sora is.
Maybe I sound like a Roxas-fangirl here, but honestly, this is how the characters appear to me. Of course, Sora's great, and Roxas wouldn't have fitted in Sora's role, just like Sora couldn't have fitted in Roxas'. I'm really happy with the way they both turned out, but I really wish that Sora had at least changed a little through the game, something that, sadly, did not happen. Also, I'm sad that they didn't develop on Roxas a little bit more, like, they didn't let you play as him much even though he was an awesome character. He has more depth to him and his clothes look better in my opinion
Woah XD... extremely long post....
